And For The Week’s End …

The writings of  Sally Clarkson have been — and continue to be — the kindling for reigniting my passion for motherhood. As moms, we’re often trudging through life in a perpetual state of exhaustion, and it’s easy to lose sight of our goals for our children. Not academic goals or athletic pursuits, but the goals I’m talking about are the memories we want to make for our children, the verses, stories and images we want to fill their heads and hearts, and the security and love we want them to feel when they think of home.

Sally Clarkson’s books have offered me so much guidance, and have reminded me of just how important my job really is as their mother. I am not only the person who feeds and clothes them, hugs them and kisses them, tucks them in at night … I am the guardian of their innocence and the facilitator of establishing their relationship with God.

If you are unfamiliar with Sally Clarkson’s work, I implore you to peruse her blog, buy her books or listen to her podcast. “The Lifegiving Home” is chock-full of inspiration, and her “Mom Heart Moments” daily devotional book is one of my favorites. I cannot wait to get my hands on her new book, “Awaking Wonder,” where Clarkson teaches parents how to “open your children’s hearts and minds to the grand design, beauty and goodness scattered throughout the universe.” Delicious.

Below is an excerpt from today’s message in “Mom Heart Moments.” I’m not sure who needs to see this today, but I suspect it’s closer to all of us than none of us. Have a wonderful weekend, and remember how much you matter.

July 31

So often, we give and give and give and then wonder why we have become grumpy or short on patience … As a woman who is attempting to grow in maturity with the Lord, I have to be intentional about being sure that I incorporate rest, refueling, restoration, and inspiration in my own personal life, not just once in a while, but regularly so that I can keep going. … So right now, though there are many letters to answer, piles to organize, rooms to clean, groceries to shop for, people to call back, ad infinitum, I will lay them all in the file folders of heaven for God to keep.

In repentance and rest you will be saved, in quietness and trust is your strength.
